When I first started surfing the Internet, I remember finding sites that supported charities just by clicking on them. I never really knew if this worked or not. At the time, I figured there was nothing to lose and everything to gain. The first thing I would do when I logged on in the morning was log in to the sites and click on them. At first it was feed the hungry type sites, then rebuild the rain forests, then fight aids. then one site had a few of these to click on at one location to make it convenient. I checked them out as best as I could through BBB and consumer affairs. If they had no complaints, then I just continued.
I have a prepaid phone, that offers free minutes to watch 1 minute commercials. My cell phone is just for emergencies so this is a great way to get free airtime. It is similar to clicking on ads. Wouldn’t it be cool if everything in life was like that. You want free cable, just watch these commercials. You want free gas, just watch these ads. You want free food, just click this ad. Technically, you are trading in your time for these things and so it really isn’t free. But I think we all waste enough time watching TV and doing other non-productive stuff, that we could easily spend time clicking or watching ads.
I now have this blog which works on that basic principle. I guess all these advertisers really are willing to pay for clicks on their ads. Google makes a ton of money and pays people a lot of money just for you to carry their ads. I think this is cool that the little guys like me can participate. I think it is a lot harder than it looks. Basically it is a penny a click. So you would need 10,000 clicks to make a hundred bucks. When you don’t get that much traffic, that is like a bazillion people.
You know I read a bunch of good blogs. All for free. I actually click a few of the ads on their site so I feel like I am paying my admission to read their blogs. The way I do it though is really cool. I use the FireFox browser. A long time ago I used the Opera browser, then I migrated towards this browser. I just basically right click the ads and have them open up in another tab while I am reading the blog. I think the latest internet explorer browser does that too. This way they get credit for the click, but I don’t have to read the ad if I am not really interested. I know you might think that is not fair for the advertisers, but seriously they want you to click on ads. So I just do it. If the ad was really effective, I would click it and read it. And of course if the product is really that good, the I would buy it. I think I have clicked on Gevalia coffee and bought it that way online before. I feel like having a cup now. Cheers!
