He is probably the biggest Filipino boxer at 5′6′ and weighing only 130 pounds. At this weight class, boxing matches are usually more exciting because the fighters are very energetic throughout the fight and throw a lot of punches. He is my favorite Filipino fighter and the only one I know of.
He is dominating the weight class at the age of 28. In the last couple of years, he has become popular in the United States because he has beaten top rank and highly skilled fighters such as Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales twice, Jorge Solis, and Oscar Larios.
He is scheduled for a rematch against Barrera, but the outcome will probably be the same.
I like him because he is a fellow countryman and seems very humble. I do think he is highly conditioned and throws like a hundred punches per round. Many of them are power shots. I think he should throw more combinations and try to be more accurate. Even though he has been on a winning streak, he seems to be a sloppy fighter to me. His biggest weapon are his numerous power punches in a round, but I think he could get outboxed if he doesn’t tighten up his defenses.
I hope he continues to win. He is an exciting fighter and good for the sport. Barrera is a great fighter who figured out Prince Naseem. Will he be able to figure out Pacquiao and out box him in the rematch. If Barrera was younger I think he could. But at this stage of his career, and Pacquiao seemingly more muscular, stronger, and even a better boxer since they last fought, I highly doubt it. I guess we will find out on October 6.
I think a better fight would be Pacquiao against Ricky Hatton at a catch weight of 135. Pacquiao would be going up 5 pounds and Hatton going down 5 pounds. That would sell some major PPVs. That would be an awesome fight. Both are very aggressive fighters and both have good conditioning.

Manny is a great pugilist. If he wants the big fights, he has to sign with Goldenboy. Then, he would see the huge paydays, plus top opposition. The Hatton vs Manny figth will never happen. Hatton is just too big and has better has better genetics..lol
Manny did sign up with Goldenboy productions as well as Top Rank. They have settled their dispute and I guess have some type of agreement to co-promote them. Here is the link to the news coverage on it straight from the goldenboy website: http://www.goldenboypromotions.com/media/2007/june/6.29.07_toprank.htm
I posted the article here, in case the link doesn’t work for you:
GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS AND TOP RANK REACH SETTLEMENT AND LOOK TOWARDS FUTURE TOGETHER
LOS ANGELES (June 29) — Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank have reached a
settlement of the various legal disputes including that pertaining to Manny Pacquiao.
Bouts between Manny Pacquiao and marquee fighters under contract to Golden
Boy will be co-promoted by Golden Boy and Top Rank. Fights between Manny
Pacquiao against fighters other than Golden Boy fighters will be promoted
by Top Rank with Golden Boy retaining a promotional interest.
The first fight which will be presented under this arrangement will be
Manny Pacquiao vs. Marco Antonio Barrera on October 6, 2007 at Mandalay
Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy, and Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank, both
agreed that the settlement will be great for boxing as Top Rank fighters
will be taking on Golden Boy fighters in the months and years ahead.
All other details of the settlement are confidential.
I think DeLaHoya can put that fight together if he doesn’t fight Hatton himself. You know Pacquiao has basically beaten the very best Mexican fighters in his division so he will be looking for new challenges. Hatton at 135 will be easy for the Pacman. Have you seen how he has bulked up lately. I don’t think Hatton has fought opposition that throws more punches than him. I think DLH may have changed his mind about signing Pacman after he KO’d his marquee fighter Barrera in his debut as a goldenboy fighter. Just a thought. Like Sakaraba is the gracie-hunter, maybe Pacquiao is the Mexican-hunter. Lol
