Conspiracy theories fascinate me

Posted on Jul 30, 2007 by CHESSNOID in Uncategorized | 2 Comments

There are many out there. I like to watch movies based on conspiracy theories. There was a Mel Gibson movie called Conspiracy Theory but it wasn’t very good. Excellent premise just poor execution. A recent movie I have seen that involve conspiracies was the Good Shepard with Matt Damon in the CIA. Yes, the same actor in the Bourne Conspiracy trilogy that I think are actually good and entertaining action flicks. The Good Shepard was a good movie but too long for most people. It may even have had too many characters and a confusing timeline. I might have to watch that again when I am up for it. I really liked that George Clooney movie Syriana. It didn’t do too well at the box office but got good reviews. It is fictional but seems like it actually could happen in our government.

I checked out Wikpedia to see what they list as a conspiracy theory. It actually had a good definition: “conspiracy theory” may be a neutral descriptor for any conspiracy claim. To conspire means “to join in a secret agreement to do an unlawful or wrongful act or to use such means to accomplish a lawful end.” However, conspiracy theory is also used to indicate a narrative genre that includes a broad selection of (not necessarily related) arguments for the existence of grand conspiracies, any of which might have far-reaching social and political implications if true.

I guess the most popular conspiracy theory is in regards to the John F Kennedy assassination. We’ve all seen it in movies, magazines, and investigative TV shows that cover this topic. Do you believe it was just one guy? It doesn’t seem plausible to me that one man could do that by himself. Even harder to believe in the Warren Commission report is the way that bullet hit more than one person. Well, I guess we will never know. Check out wikpedia about other interesting stories related to that tragedy. You will be surprised to see what is written. I knew I was.

There is a list of conspiracies, all interesting in their own ways. They are all theories and will probably stay that way in our lifetimes, but all very interesting to read. Here is the list and you can google any of the topics if you want to learn more about:

* 9/11 conspiracy theories, usually relating the September 11, 2001 attacks to US government officials and their plans for expansion of militarism and the police state.
* The alleged conspiracy to murder Vince Foster, claimed to involve Bill Clinton.
* The “vast, right-wing conspiracy” cited by Hillary Clinton during the impeachment of Bill Clinton.
* The alleged conspiracy between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda, promoted by the White House,[7] claimed by its critics as justification for a preemptive invasion of Iraq.[8] A Washington Post poll published in September of 2003 showed that nearly seventy percent of Americans were convinced that Saddam Hussein was personally responsible for the attacks of September 11, 2001.[9]
* The New World Order, a conspiracy theory in which a powerful and secretive group plans to or does in fact rule the world through a one-world government.
* The alleged conspiracy among oil producing nations to manipulate oil prices.
* John F. Kennedy assassination conspiracy theories, claiming the direct involvement of elements within the US government in the assassination. A variation of this theory was privately held in the Kennedy family, and was first expressed by Robert Kennedy in private.[10][11]
* The Robert F. Kennedy assassination, claiming that the alleged assassin was not the lone gunman, and that RFK was killed by members of the Bay of Pigs operation of the CIA.[12] [13]
* The alleged conspiracy among Ordem Gael to expande celtic culture.
* Jewish or Zionist global domination conspiracy theories, perhaps the oldest common type of conspiracy theories, most notable of which is the The Protocols of the Elders of Zion anti-Semitic conspiracy theory (which is based on a fabricated document[14]).
* The alleged conspiracy among stakeholders in the military, industry and congress, cited by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
* The Apollo Moon-Landing Hoax Theory suggests that some or all elements of the Apollo missions were faked by NASA.
* The day care sexual abuse hysteria, and theory of satanic ritual abuse, a widespread belief that a conspiracy of child molesters, and satanists, are engaging in child sexual abuse.
* The Red scare, the widely held belief that a conspiracy of communists had infiltrated the government of the United States, and influential positions in the media.
* The Paul is Dead theory, stating that Paul McCartney of The Beatles died in 1966 and was replaced by a look-alike while clues were hidden in songs and album cover art.
