Marvel comics- X-Men, Wolverine, and the Hulk 181

I just read an article about the X-men movie franchise and what was next after the billion dollar trilogy. Apparently, the wolverine character played by Hugh Jackman is in the works. He is probably the most popular x-men character in the Marvel comic book world next to Spider-man. I was once a big comic book collector not too long ago. I read mainly Marvel comics such as Spider-man, the Avengers, the Hulk, and Fantastic Four. All these have been made into movies, except the Avengers. Other marvel characters made into movies were the Punisher and Ghost Rider.

That 300 movie was adapted from Frank Miller’s comic based on history. Incidentally, those are DC comics like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. I am not really a big fan of DC comics.

This wolverine movie is supposed to be out in 2008 and my guess will probably be based on his origin. He is actually Canadian and part of a secret government program called Weapon X. They have made many spin off comics on Wolverine. The comic book that made Wolverine famous was his appearance in a 1974 Incredible Hulk comic book. They have a fight of some sorts. Anyways, that particular comic book Incredible Hulk 181 goes for a few hundred dollars for a lousy condition comic up to a few thousand dollars in a near mint grade. If it is CGC graded, then that increases its value dramatically. If you ever want to actually know what the market is paying for it, just go to EBay and see what they are selling for. I don’t have this comic book but do remember seeing it as a child. The cover price on this comic is 25 cents.

I just checked EBay and a CGC graded 9.6 Incredible hulk 181 closed at $4,132.09 with 32 bids. Just think if you bought a 100 of these for a quarter a piece when they came out and just put it in a box, today you would be sitting on over $400,000. Now that would be the best $25 you would of spent. Hindsight is 20/20 but I don’t think anyone could have guessed that back in the 1970s.
