The Homeless Guy

I found a brand new blog relating to homeless people. It is actually called The Homeless Guy. I find it amazing that a homeless person can blog on a regular basis from his laptop when his main priority is still eating and finding shelter. This is really the age of technology. Most people forget that homeless people are just like you and me and have feelings. Often people become numb to the homeless because there are so many of them and the solution seems to elude all of us. We don’t really know if that dollar we give them will feed them or go to drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes.

I know many people think that they are all drug addicts or alcoholics which is really just a stereotype. Many of them were people who were once living paycheck to paycheck just like most of us. In the line of work I do which is bill collections, I hear many sad stories. Most times they seem like excuses because I hear so many of them. Since I have been doing it for almost 20 years, I have pretty much heard every story. I know some of the people I have run across may have become actually become homeless. Usually when I call, they are 2 or 3 months down on rent or mortgage payments stemming from a loss of income due to job loss, death in the family, or some other major financial hardship. I am guessing if drug or alcohol didn’t play a part in them losing their home, then it probably played a part for them in trying to cope with hardship of life after losing their home and easing the pain of their current situation.

I like the Homeless Guy’s blog because it is sincere and genuine. I think reading it helps to humanize all homeless people and prevents further stereotyping. Kevin is his first name and he writes very well. He is candid and tells us he has been homeless over half his life starting at the age of 21. Not only that, he has struggled with homelessness at least 8 times, and had a family at one time. Another great thing Kevin does is pass on information to others in need. He talks about resources that are available and his personal experiences with them. That in itself makes his blog useful.

His banner picture of his belongings tells us this is basically all his worldly possessions. Read his blog when you get a chance. It is very insightful and may even appreciate your life and all its gifts even more. Personally, it made me realize and appreciate everything in my life exponentially.

So glad you enjoyed that Web Urbanist post. One of the commenters on the post before the one you mentioned actually claimed to be (and could well be) homeless and wrote he was typing from an internet cafe. Web Urbanist has actually never had so many blindly stereotypical comments on any other post. People think that the homeless should just ‘go get jobs’ but it is never that simple. Anyway, joined your community and love the blog. Keep up the good work and thanks for pointing me to another interesting site!

Hi Derami, I agree and do believe that getting out of homelessness is extremely hard without assistance. Thanks for joining the community, I appreciate it.

Your site Web Urbanist is excellent!

Hi Sabuffy, I guess we will never really know if he homeless, but it doesn’t seem to be the kind of story you want to make up and brag about. Judging by his posts, if he isn’t homeless now, it sounds like he has experienced it. I do like the fact that he does put links on where to get help if one was to get in that difficult situation.

I checked out your blog and agree that socks aren’t sexy. The toe sucking comments made me laugh.
