Backing up and passwords and stock market update 9-5-07 7:30 pm

My computer crashed. Or kind of crashed. I was working on my laptop, and on one of the applications got hung up. I tried to turn it off through the task manager. Still nothing. So when all else fails, I just click the little button until it powers off. When it turned back on, my user profile wouldn’t load. All my bookmarks were gone, and I couldn’t remember all my passwords especially to all these new sites I recently signed up for. Sigh.

Later I tried to figure out what I did wrong. I have the vista o/s and the restore option was enabled but when I tried it I got an error message. Then it gave me another option saying would you like me to repair the error. Of course! And unbelievably, it did. The error explanation said there was a windows update this morning that may have caused the error. Originally I thought I had a virus or spyware. I lucked out and neither was on my hard drive. ;)

Anyways, I did a backup of my data just in case it happens again. I will start writing down my passwords again and not rely on my pc program to remember them.

The stock market took a dump today. All 3 indexes were down all day and that is where they finished. I got greedy and didn’t sell when I should have. So I need to really commit to what I want to do. I should be happy with my returns to date, but I just can’t get the feeling that we should close strong this year. It is an election year and usually that is enough to close strong. I have to admit, these consolidations are usually healthy before a strong run up of numbers. Are there any technical analysts that want to give there 2 cents and make a 3 month market prediction?

DOW 13,305.47 -143.39
NASDAQ 2,605.95 -24.29
S&P 500 1,472.29 -17.13

    Hi chessnoid,
Passwords - you could use Roboform, a secure desktop utility, or Clipperz, an online secure utility to store them and never have to enter them again.
If you go to my blog and in the search box enter either of those it will bring up the relevant info.
    BTW…it’s all free

    Hi Colin,
Thanks for the suggestions. I will research them and see if they fit my needs. My only concern would be to make sure they are secure and have no spyware. Free is my favorite price. lol.
    Thanks, ;)

    Hi Chessnoid,
Free is the only price I promote lol, no hidden affiliate links etc. If anything is good but has a time limited Free offer I make sure it is in the post.
One example is Network Magic, which is great for non-techies to set up wireless access. It is fully featured for 7 days then reverts to a limited application, but 7 days should be enough for anyone wanting to set up SOHO etc.
I also check for spyware and any other nasties on another pc specifically used for that purpose :)
