Goals, motivation, Tony Robbins, Al Gore, gratitude

I ran across an article that talked about SMART goals. SMART is an acronym for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time specific. I was taught this in college in 1986 by my professor at Woodbury University. At the time, it didn’t make that much sense to me. I even thought he created it, but obviously this has been circulating everywhere. I have put this is practice in my life and have achieved great results. I think I have become too comfortable and maybe even complacent. As I have aged, my priorities have changed. I am not as money hungry as I used to be. I do have some but always could use a little more. lol. ;)

I think to have SMART goals is not enough. I think a key ingredient that is missing is motivation. It is hard to measure and even harder to obtain. What is it? It is many things, but it is what makes you reach for your smart goals. One of the motivational speakers that I listened to 15 years ago was Tony Robbins. I actually still listen to his CDs now. I found this recent video of him where Al Gore was in attendance. Check it out.

I am thankful for being so lucky in my life. I have a wonderful wife, a roof over my head, a fridge with food, a car with gas, and readers who like what I blog about. Thank you. :)

What motivates you? What are you thankful for? Comment and let me know.

Like you, I am thankful for all my blessings. All the regular things, my health, my home and family, my creative bliss. I take nothing for granted, because I am aware of how much suffering there is in the world.

I like these types of cd’s. The hard part is following through. It makes life a lot more easier and fullfilling. It helps a person focus on what is important.

Thank you Goldenboy for the comment. He is one of my favorite motivational speakers. I agree it does help people focus on things they should be grateful for.

Basically, the only thing that truly motivates me is myself. That said, let me explain: I can see/hear/read something that truly inspires me, but it’s up to me to motivate myself in the wake of that inspiration. I believe that’s true for everyone, regardless if they know it or not. ;)

What I am thankful for is my amazing, loving, outstanding Mother, God rest her soul; my two fantabulous siters; my three stupendous and enormously wonderful children; my adorable 3-year-old grandson; my 6 beautiful and loving dogs; and last but not least, my husband of 25 years. :)
