9/11, housing market and stock market summary 9-7-07, technorati, viral link

September is one of those crazy months where I start thinking something terrible might happen in the world. Specifically, the 9/11 anniversary is coming up in a few weeks. Osama bin Laden, the son of a family who does business directly with the Bush family (hmmm), has put a tape out. No threats of any sort, but you have to worry a little bit. Then last week, the US military flew 6 nuclear bombs in a B52 by accident over 1500 miles across a few states in the US. Now that is just plain crazy. Then on the 15th, the top general will give his assessment in Iraq. The preliminaries seem to point that we will finally start the withdrawals of troops. However, Bush may just spin it to say the same old thing, that we must stay the course, blah, blah, blah. Let’s hope September comes and goes without any incident and that we start the process of leaving Iraq and bringing the troops home.

Based on all my readings with the housing bubble theory which has seems to become more real every month, I think the economy is heading into a recession that may be really bad. Not that they are ever good, but this one will affect us and many people we all know. We have had the massive layoffs of mortgage companies and all the directly related industries like real estate sales, escrows, title, new home builders, etc have all downsized or just closed shop. Now I think more companies not related to the housing market will start to get hurt by having all these consumers unable to buy their services and goods. They too will start to downsize and close shop. Thus the domino affect will begin.

The worst news came out yesterday that U.S. Home Foreclosures, Delinquencies at Record High which states that the number of Americans who may lose their homes to foreclosure reached a record in the second quarter as late payments by subprime borrowers surged to one out of every seven loans. More foreclosures are on the way as these adjustable rate mortgages start to reset. Every time housing news comes out, it seems to pummel the stock market. I really can’t see any positive news coming out anytime soon. Last week, Bush announced some programs to help but I think that was just more blah, blah, blah. I don’t even think a federal government bailout would help at this point. That is not where the real problem stems from. The bottom line is the prices of homes are just extremely inflated and do not match up with the incomes that people are actually making. I live in California, so we will probably be one of the states hit the hardest because we have the most originated subprime loans. Check out Dr Housing Bubbles post in August: Dissecting a County of 10,000,000 People: The Housing Demographics of Los Angeles which explains in detail the incomes relationship to housing prices. He is one of my favorite housing bloggers because he puts in detailed analysis based on factual data.

Anyways, the stock market indexes fell down again. It truly has been a roller coaster ride these past few months. Now that the indexes are heading back to their 50 and 200 day moving averages, I am considering selling off all my stocks and sitting in cash. The ride is becoming to scary for me. Lol. :(

DOW 13,113.38 -249.97
NASDAQ 2,565.70 -48.62
S&P 500 1,453.55 -25.00

My technorati authority is up to 26 now. I really think it is because of the viral links and other bloggers viral linking back. Or it could be the comments, too. I do like this because it is the same thing as exchanging links but without having to have a long endless list on your blogroll. As promised, my viral link at the bottom of the post. This viral linking works best if the viral link is reciprocated. I am new to this so feel free to correct me if I am mistaken. If you want to be included or if I missed you by accident, just email me and I will add you on. ;)

    Hi Cyberpenguin,
Thank you very much for the compliment. I am glad you enjoy my blog. Don’t forget they have a free UFC fight this weekend. The main event should be good between Henderson vs Quinton. They are both great athletes. Hope you get a chance to catch it. :)

    Nice lookin’ Blog Design Dude*

Very Clean Layout + Visually Interesting - I also love the use of a Darker BG - why 99% of WPers use Boring White + Lame Fonts is beyond me!!

I’m just in the Process of setting up a New WordPress Blog + it’s a lot of Work*

A Labour of Love as I like to call it!!

    ;))

  15. CHESSNOID, September 9, 2007:

    Hi YC,
I have added you on the links.:) Good luck,
    ;)

  16. CHESSNOID, September 9, 2007:

    Hi Billy Warhol,
Thank you very much. Did you notice the squares at the top. When you click on them they change the backgrounds colors.
I agree going back to make any retroactive changes will take some work. I am changing the tags in my older posts, but I only have about 125 posts in my 2 months. It may be more daunting for bloggers who have been doing it for longer.
    Cheers! ;)
