Web traffic, technorati 69, mybloglog, blogcatalog, romlet, webetur, stumbleupon, digg, viral link

I know we all want to build web traffic without a doubt. That way we feel more satisfaction in the stuff we write. At least that is the way it is for me. So as far as blogs go, I am still an infant not even 3 months old. Writing a satisfying blog does require you to read a lot more than writing. Understanding everything you read is even more difficult. I want to share everything I am learning because I know we are all in the same boat either in generating traffic, having ideas to post about, or just increasing your social network.

I love the fact the MyBlogLog + BlogCatalog are already set up for newbies to browse other blogs and that there seems to be many technically web inclined people that are willing to help you if you just ask. The little Romlet widget I installed does send me some traffic which has surprised me because it is just there existing with little avatars. I do submit my blog posts on WeBetUr, but that doesn’t really get much traffic. I really wished they were more user friendly or had a faq section. I think if you want clarification, you have to search for it in the forums and I am just not that guy who wants to become a site expert for my intended purposes. Bumpzee never really worked for me. I can’t really say anymore than that.

Recently, I started getting a spike in traffic because of stumbleupon and digg. Also, this is a fast way to find sites, pictures and videos that might be of interest to you. I am really starting to understand it more. I think there is some type of strategy in making it work to get similar interested people to read my blog. I just haven’t figured it out. I also signed up for Blogrush just like you, and to be honest, I don’t see in my stats one person being referred from it. I will probably removing the widget within a week. It seems to be just hype in self promotion which they have done a great job for themselves, but I haven’t benefited in anyway.

My technorati is up to 69 and I just got a technorati blog reaction from a new blog that included me in a viral link. I have decided to do it again. This is easy to do and long term I do believe it has many benefits. I have met many bloggers with similar interest through viral linking and continue to visit their sites. If you want me to add you, just let me know and I will do so, but to actually benefit everyone involved you should be prepared to participate and cut and paste it post it on your site somewhere. To me, this is like the end of the movie and credits start to roll up. Most people get up in the theaters and leave which is cool, but others like me and my wife like to stay until the very end when the lights turn back on.

For anyone new to this, you cut and paste this to your site in a post as links not as textt, making sure you add yourself and maybe 5 more bloggers you like. When others do the same, you get a “link” pointing at each other’s site. This is the part I believe that actually increases your technorati authority. If you have already have a link with that blogger through a blog roll or previous viral link, you will not see any increases from that person when they do it because technorati only counts the site one time in a 6 month period regardless of how many links to that site. The only benefit from that is you extend the link for another 6 months. You can read my earlier post about their explanation here. Increasing your technorati is just a tool to get a higher ranking which in the long term will help you get more traffic. I have noticed all these different things have helped increased my traffic with both new and repeat visitors.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about when I’ll remove my BlogRush widget, too… Congrats on the technorati ranking!

    Thanks Joanne,

I appreciate the support. Not sure what Blogrush is going to do when we all just start removing their widgets. No one likes broken promises so a second promotion will not be received as easily from the many skeptical bloggers like us. We will see. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy my blog as much as I enjoy yours. ;)

    Hi Peter,
It is only fitting to help others since many others have helped me. Good Karma at work.

Also, thank you for your thoughtful review on BlogCatalog. I do appreciate it.

  6. CHESSNOID, September 22, 2007:

    Hi David,
Yeah, I agree with the blogrush thing. Hopefully it can save itself, because I get a feeling they are going to have many bloggers pulling it off their sites.
You’re welcome on the link love.

Now that some time has passed I’ve stop using BC for the social network and more for a way to prmote a post using the discussion feature. I use MBL full blown interacting with members and forming some fan base. Digg is a great network and can get your post circulated quickly but not for too long only like the 1st hour or so because you are placed in the whats new section and later lose that position. Technorati is cool but doesnt serve a great deal for me because you dont obtain traffic from it but it just happens if ya get me :P Nice post.

Hey CNoid, thanks for the link. I’m doing mine today too.

Re staying till the very end when all the movie credits finish - I like to do that too. As a fellow creative person or artist, it’s my way of showing every person that worked on a film their due respect - especially if it’s a movie I liked or appreciated for other reasons. I figure these people spend months of their lives on this creative endeavor, it’s the least I could do and only takes a couple of minutes of mine. Besides, I like to see all the weird job descriptions. Like I’ve always wondered what the heck a ‘Best Boy’ does. I also like to see all the song and music credits, and when applicable, who played the animals. And sometimes, you get rewarded with funny out-takes or skits for staying until the very end. But that’s just me. :o)

    HI ALSS ;)
Your welcome for the viral link. I hope it works out well for you.
You bring a great perspective on artist appreciation. As long as my bucket has popcorn, I could stay and watch a double feature. Oh, they don’t do those anymore do they? :(
Yes, I wonder what all those people actually do. I think it must be important because when I watch the academy or some other awards show, they are recognized and given trophies for their works.
Thanks for your insight. I do appreciate it.
    ;)
