Today is my 3 month blog anniversary. I started on the 4th of July because my TV broke and I haven’t been able to stop since then. It is an addiction that allows me to express myself. I owe it all to my wife who set up the blog and picked out the beautiful template. And thanks to all of you who I met through Mybloglog, Blogcatalog, Romlet, WeBetUr, Bumzee, Technorati, Stumbleupon, and DIGG communities and support me by visiting my site. Cheers to all of you!
When I came home from work, I caught up with some news. I guess there is an outrage in the Filipino community about a line that was in the TV show Desperate Housewives. I watched the first 2 seasons of the show, but have lost interest in it. The line was not nice and poked fun of a stereotype of Filipino doctors. Here is the Filipino insult clip you can watch in the snap pop up. The ABC network has apologized over the impoliticly correct line in the script, but the Filipino community is still upset. I am a Filipino and know our culture. Unfortunately, I personally would not want to have a Filipino doctor for myself. The truth is there are quacks in every culture. The show was wrong for including the racially degrading remark in its script and can not undo it, but I think it is best we don’t dwell on it and move on.
There was a new type of show called Pushing Daisies about a man who has the gift to make people come back alive with a touch. The repercussions is if he makes someone come back to life, someone else must die in his or her place. The show was quirky and has kind of an Amelie or Edward Scissorhand movie quality about it. I don’t know if I like it yet, so will wait till next week to see if it worth putting it on my dvr queue.
Another news clip that I found interesting are the new pictures of Princess Diana before her death have been released. There seems something wrong with the whole story. I know there are many rumors about her relationship with her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayad. Dodi’s father thinks they were out to kill his son because of his relationship with Princess Di. I know many people have different opinions on this, but usually when a story has holes in it and straight answers can not be found, people start to consider all the possibilities in search for the truth. That is why JFK’s assassination with the 1 bullet theory doesn’t die down. Nor will the conspiracy theory of the third World Trade Center building collapsing on itself. If the story doesn’t make sense, a conspiracy theory is inevitable.
The stock market again was on a bumpy ride going up and down throughout they day. They ended up on a positive note for the day. Tomorrow, the fed will announce what it thinks it will do in future concerning its monetary policy. I believe it will be a volatile day tomorrow.

Dude I didn’t know you’re Filipino! My gf is Filipino.
I didn’t know there was such a stereotype, in fact I thought the Filipino medical community was strong and known for the right reasons. My gf’s brother is a top physiotherapist and has recently moved to the States, actually. Still, don’t know why anyone would watch Des Housewives.

Hey YC,
Yes, I am 100% Filipino. Both my father and mother are Filipino and I was born there, but raised here in the states. There is a big Filipino community in Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. I am sure there are more that I am not aware of.
I did like Desperate Housewives the first season, but then it became to commercial in season 2. And what I really mean is too predictable.
How does your girl friend feel about the whole fiasco?
I don’t think she is aware of it yet, I’ll ask her later.
But half her family live in the States, so it’d be interesting to hear of their reaction. They might have some, because both her brothers are in the medical profession.

You bet we are upset and I already wrote an article about it. The writer should have had the decency to use Filipino medical professionals as a joke.
Medicine is no joke, it takes time to be in the profession and that should have been the first consideration.
Hi YC,

I think it would be great to hear her point of view. It may be even more personal since they are in the profession. Let me know.
Hi Philippines Blog,
Thanks for your comment. I think it is good to get perspective from everyone. I think your suggestion would be reasonable that I read in your blog. Hopefully, the TV show does it and has the same actress apologize on behalf of the show.
Cheers!
