Feedstats, technorati, google penalties, MMA update, + stock market update 10-12-07

My feedstats now has bounced from 20 to 30. Yeah. This does seem to have a weird yoyo effect. I don’t think it is suppose to be like that but I am sure I will eventually figure it out like the technorati thing. It moved up again and is now up to 108. I sometimes wonder if technorati will do something like google and announce that everyone who uses memes, viral links, link exchanges, etc will now have a 0 authority. I know that is not funny for a blogger because it takes a lot of time work and effort to build it up, but I am guessing that would be similar to what is making a lot of monetized websites and bloggers upset. Again, I don’t make money on this blog but would like to one day. Right now, my goal is to build a nice base of loyal readers. I can only imagine how difficult it is when a big company like google starts to penalize people. I am reading more about this and you can too at YC’s site Internet Marketing Mind He actually brings up a great argument I think we can all appreciate.

In regards to mixed martial arts, Nick Diaz is now locked in at Showtime’s Pro Elite XC which is great for fans like me. He is a high caliber fighter and if you get Showtime the fights are free. Diaz will fight KJ Noons for the new EliteXC 160-pound title on the Nov. 10 event. They also signed up Kimbo who is rumored to fight David Tank Abbott. These should both be exciting fights no matter who wins. On the bigger news that is sweeping the mma world, Randy Couture made it clear that this is an issue about respect and unfair pay. He believes that the UFC owners lied to him about how he is compensated in comparison to other fighters. I think it was courageous and difficult for him to walk away from an organization where he was master of the house and also a commentator. I am guessing Randy has a game plan to get into the biggest fight of his career in the near future before he retires. My guess is that the owner of M-1 is Mark Cuban, who signed up Fedor Emelianenko. It is a coincidence that Couture terminated his employment at UFC for both his jobs on the same day. I would have to speculate the biggest mma fight since Fedor vs Crocop is underway and Couture just needed to have verification that Fedor was signed and that he would fight him. The UFC spun a story saying he is retiring and that he is under contract till July of next year. His agent says otherwise:

“Randy’s contract was on a fight-by-fight basis, and that’s the way he said he was always going to take it – fight by fight,” said Matt Walker, Couture’s agent at The Gersh Agency. “His acting career is accelerating at an astronomical rate, and without the support he felt some of his peers were receiving in the fight business, this was the logical choice.”

I am very interested in mma again now a new venue seems to be opening and may fill the void that Pride FC left when UFC bought it and put it out of business. We will see what happens next as the story unfolds.

The stock market continued its upward decent to new highs. I am surprised by the surge of buyers vs sellers.

DOW 14,093.08 +77.96
NASDAQ 2,805.68 +33.48
S&P 500 1,561.80 +7.39

My feed numbers jump around, but they’ve been staying around 50 since they got up that high. And for such a new blog, I’m proud where I’ve gotten so far. I don’t have much of a Technorati rank at all, but my blog’s doing well for a hobby. I’m not that into SEO and all that.

I’ve never heard of Nick Diaz, so nothing to say on that, but I thought I heard that the stock market was headed downward…guess not.

    Hi Sydney,
I think having feed numbers of 50 is great. Especially if they are not bouncing around anymore. I think your blog is cool.
Nick Diaz is a bad boy fighter and doesn’t get good press, but he is good.
The stock market actually rebounded from Sept 18 up till now. That is when the fed gov lowered rates. I cashed out all my stock a month too early, but now I have no more stress of losing money.
Thanks for the comment and please sign up on the rss feed. I appreciate it.
    Cheers!

Hey Chessnoid, thanks again for the mention - I appreciate it. It is still something I am thinking a lot about.

About UFC and related stuff, do you have an authority site that you visit often?

Chessnoid, I still think that Ask.com has a long way to go to catch up with Google.com. It’s interesting really to check out what each of these search engines deem as the highest rated links. At one time there was this website where you can go to and it compares in a graph form which pages are indexed first by which search engine. It’s always good to know.

    Hi YC,
I have a list of sites I like to read about MMA. They are:
    http://www.mmaweekly.com/
    http://www.sherdog.com/
    http://sports.espn.go.com/extra/mma/index
    http://www.mmatko.com/
    http://www.thefightnetwork.com/
There are a couple of sites that post the videos you can’t find on youtube of some mma fights as well. Let me know if you are interested in those too.
    Cheers!

    Hi Sharon,
I agree Ask.com is no where near google right now. However, based on all the blogs giving google bad publicity–in this case viral bad publicity–ask.com can make some moves to gain some users. Yahoo, MSN, or any other company might buy them out just to capture the market. Yahoo and MSN could merge.
In general, most companies who don’t take care of their customers usually don’t stay in business. Google went big after it went public and sold stock. The reason why the stock has grown by 600 percent is because of its users. Unhappy users will go to other companies who will cater to their needs. I have no issues going back to yahoo or excite or even trying out ask.com for my searches if google made me unhappy. I am not directly affected by their new rules because I am a small blog and do not blog for monetary purposes, but I would be willing to boycott them to support my fellow bloggers. I still love google. Cheers!
