Blog Action Day 10-15-07, movies galore: Away From Her, The Notebook, The Deep, Into the Blue, Black Book

Tomorrow is Blog Action Day and the topic will be to write about be the environment. There are many ways to participate.

On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind - the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future.

Blog Action Day is about MASS participation. That means we need you! Here are 3 ways to participate:

I haven’t written my post yet but have a good idea of what I want to write about. Today is Sunday and my goal is just to relax. This is one area I excel in and almost always accomplish this everyday. ;) That’s what happens when you set realistic goals.

I watched a sad movie yesterday called Away From Her. It is about Alzheimer’s disease and how an aging couple handles it. The couple is married for 44 years and had never been apart. The wife decides to check in to a health care manor where the husband is not allowed to see her for 30 days to allow his wife to settle in. When he does come back, she no longer knows him. Yes, I cried a little bit but how can you not. This story has excellent character development which a straight forward plot. There is some great acting by Julie Christie and Olympia Dukakis.

This movie reminded me of another movie I saw a few years ago called the Notebook. The Notebook came out in 2004 and has some big names in it like Gena Rowlands, James Garner, Ryan Gosling, and Rachel McAdams . I’ll be upfront with you, this was a great romantic love story that made me really cry. The kind of cry that makes your eyes stream with tears and makes your nose runny. I don’t want to go into the plot because that’s what makes the story so great. Of course, it has great acting and good character development. If you can’t catch a rerun on cable then put it in your blockbuster or netflix queue. You won’t regret it. I highly recommend this movie and would watch it with a loved one. I have put the youtube links on the title. So if you hover over the title, you can play the movie preview inside the snap pop up.

I love watching movies. 2 other movies I saw this weekend were Into the Blue with Jessica Alba and Paul Walker. This movie was actually not too bad and kind of reminded me of an old movie called The Deep with Jacqueline Bisset, Nick Nolte, and Louis Gossett Jr. I wouldn’t recommend putting Into the Blue it in your movie queue, but you can probably dvr or tivo it on cable right now. It is worth watching with a bucket of popcorn.

The other movie I saw was called the Black Book. It is a foreign movie and received a lot of good reviews and won many foreign awards. It didn’t do too well at the US box office probably because it is a subtitled movie but I liked it a lot. It is a Dutch film and takes place during WW II. There are lots of twists and turns in this war thriller and stars Carice van Houten and Sebastian Koch. I love to watch foreign films and as I watch these movies with subtitles I sometimes imagine I understand the language as I read the text and hear the actors’ voices. If you don’t mind reading along the movie, I would recommend watching this too.

I have put the movie youtube links on the title. So if you hover over the title, you can play the movie preview inside the snap pop up.  I like the way the actors face and credits pop up too.  I got those from IMDB.  Since you know I am a movie addict, please let me know what movies you have enjoyed and would recommend. Cheers! ;)

Away From Her looks good, Chessnoid. I openly admit I love dramas like this. And it’s great that you watch a lot - because I have trouble keeping up with movies now and it’s always good to get recommendations from people with (similar) taste. ;)

    Hey YC,
I like different kinds of movies. Hopefully, none to weird. I think the Notebook would be a better movie to watch if you haven’t seen it. I just love watching movies. Even watching bad movies help you appreciate the truly great ones.
    Cheers!
