Southern California Fire Storm 10-22-2007 + stock market update

Posted on Oct 22, 2007 by CHESSNOID in Uncategorized | 2 Comments

California is having its worst fire storm in a long time. I have lived most of my life in Southern California and I have never seen 15 fires simultaneously burning in 15 different cities. Some of these fires are believed to be set by arsonists. Where I live, you can see huge plumes of smoke on the horizon. You can smell the burning smell of wood and see ashes falling from the sky. These fires will be hard to get under control because we are having Santa Ana wind conditions which means constant gusts of winds anywhere from 20 to 60 miles per hour gusts of winds.
The power at my home is going up and down because of the winds. The wind conditions started Saturday and are to expected to last until Tuesday. We do expect showers on Friday so that will help out a lot. Hopefully, the weatherman is right in his predictions this time.
Our governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency. Many people are evacuating their homes and major highways and roads are shut down. This is definitely an unusual weather this time of the year. TV coverage is limited and the only thing they are showing is news about the fire. According to the news over 100 people have lost there homes.

The stock market closed up with great support from the tech stocks. The numbers all finished up in positive territory.

DOW 13,566.97 +44.95
NASDAQ 2,753.93 +28.77
S&P 500 1,506.33 +5.70

Hope everything is safe for you there, bud. Is there any danger of it reaching your end?

    Hey YC,
The fires all nearby but I am in the flat Urban area. Most of these fires are in suburban areas that have trees in the more hilly and mountainous areas. The smoke it is creating does make it uncomfortable to breathe outside. I found a news update saying there is about 20 fires or so. In San Diego, they have evacuated over 250,000 people. They seem to have it the worse. That area is about an hour away from us.
We are OK thank goodness. I hope the wind dies down and we get some much needed rain. Cheers!
