I love watching movies as often as possible. That is definitely one of the passions both my wife and I share. The only drawback is you have to watch a lot of duds before you get to see a great movie. Lately, we have been watching good movies. Our recent movie we just finished watching was Sicko by Michael Moore. I have been waiting for this to come out on video. I have seen his other documentaries and have always enjoyed them. This movie was no different and didn’t disappoint.
This documentary actually goes over the United States health care system which is under dire straights. Many people in the US who have and don’t have health insurance coverage are systematically denied health care. This was Michael Moore’s best movie yet because he actually focuses on the people in the US health care system and those outside it. All the people are real and so are their situations. As I watched the movie, I knew many of the situations being shown were true because of people I know who have experienced the same thing.
What I didn’t know is how the health care systems operated in other countries. I have heard different politicians both democrats and republicans talking about how our system is the best in the world, but we all know either from personal experience or people we know that this is not true. The way this movie presented how the actual health care worked in other countries was done by talking to doctors, patients, and even their government officials. They went to actual hospitals and showed the way it looked and asked many patients from many hospitals of their actual experiences. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised.
Other interesting things that I liked seeing in this movie were the coverage of other countries’ educational systems, labor laws, and daycare. Again, it made me think about how things are now and how things could be in the United States. This is Michael Moore’s best documentary and I highly recommend you watch it.

Good post Chess. I’m not sure if there is any easy solution to the health care crises in the United States. We do know that we cannot continue going toward the current path we are heading. Something has to change and give. The issue at hand is when you have HMOs making life and death authorizations of certain procedures. Of course they will go after the lowest cost means. That is their role. So a larger reform must be taken.

HOnestly I thought that the US Health Care System was a lot better than what you say. Here in Mexico, the system is pretty bad also. I guess that is true in most government health systems in Latinamerica.
Hi Dr HB,
I agree there is no easy change but what we have now is just not acceptable. If you get a chance to see this movie, there are many options available. Thanks for the comment and have a great weekend too.
Cheers!

Hi Irlandaamable,
I don’t know how it is in Mexico, but I know for a country like the US with our vast resources, we should have one of the best systems in the world. Unfortunately, if you have no insurance, they will not treat you. HMOs just want to make a profit and don’t care about your health needs here. Thanks for the comment.
Cheers!
