Dexter Finale

My wife and I are split over the Dexter finale.  I thought the storyline was consistent with the rest of the  season.  All his problems were coincidentally solved by his problematic ex-girlfriend Lila.  Then of course, Dexter took care of loose ends and got rid of her.   To me that seemed like a pretty good ending.

Mrs Chessnoid feels that the finale lacked some excitement.  It was weak that Dexter left the GPS in the glove compartment with the locations of his latest  kill location.  Dexter being a serial killer and living by a code of not getting caught would have never been that complacent.   I would have to agree with this assessment.  Then Lila killing Doakes after finding him was just too convenient of a coincidence as the FBI closes in on the location.  I guess this was a predictable ending, but I am happy this chapter of Dexter’s life is over and that a new season awaits all of us in 2008.

I know I am being wishy washy on this but the Dexter finale probably should of had a better twist or ending. I think an extreme twist would have made it better, such as Dexter’s sister being a serial killer too, or Doakes being saved by his old boss LaGuardia and escaping to Cuba, or Dexter actually having a heart attack from too much stress while he is on the way to the cabin .  Something or anything crazy would have been wanted in the finale. Maybe because the preview gave away so much and expectations on such a good show were high, I can see where some fans would be disappointed.  I know many people wanted to see Lila die and Doakes somehow live.  What did you think of the ending?  Could Showtime really have made a better ending?  How would you have liked to see it end?

I agree. They should have made the season finale more exciting. I think doakes should of somehow lived. One more thing, they should have left a couple more cliff hangers, giving people more reason to watch the next season. Dexter will hopefully overcome the film writers strike and launch next September.

I watched it last night. I half liked the way it ended so there is a clean slate for next season but it would have been nice for a bit of a cliff hanger. Maybe if Doakes’ body parts hadn’t been in the debris… just a hand but nothing else.

I liked the finale. I would have liked Doakes to live, but I see how that would really not be possible with him knowing what he did about Dexter. Even with no cliff hangers, I am excited for the 3rd season. If they had continued with some of those story lines (like Lila) I think it would have gotten stale. Plus, how many more close calls could Dex get out of without some really unbelievable events happening? Ok, so the GPS thing was a little easy and yes, Lila killing Doakes while simultaneously exploding the cabin was a little too convenient, but like I said, starting season 3 with a clean slate is probably better!
