I watched a few movies over the weekend, but the last one was the best one I enjoyed. It was definitely an Independent movie and I was surprised how well the characters were developed. First of all, I love watching foreign movies and appreciate the subtitles to help me understand the movie in its original context. My wife picked the movie called The Namesake. It is about a first generation Indian couple moving from India and watching their lives unfold from their first meeting and arranged marriage to the birth of their 2 kids and watching them grow up in America. To be honest with you, the pace of the movie is slow but I really like the characters in the film. The acting was good, plot was more of just a family growing up in a different world and different time, and a peak into their culture was interesting. This was definitely not your typical Indian movie where it starts to rain and everyone starts to sing. Yes, I enjoy watching those too on occasion. The only actor I recognized was Kal Penn from Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle fame. I thought that was a funny movie too.
The other movies I watched over this weekend that weren’t too bad were Eastern Promises,
The Weight of Water, Yellow , Stardust,
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, The Bourne Ultimatum , Shoot ‘Em Up , and Lady Chatterley . Wow, I watch a lot of movies. I wish I could figure out how to make my weekends longer.
