Google stock is shrinking and just dipped below $500 a share. This time it seemed to just dip because it made some comments about the Microsoft and Yahoo deal. They don’t want it to happen and would prefer they were the company putting in the bid. Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. Stocks in general were sporadic but ended on a down note with the financial stocks leading the broad market down.

I watched UFC 81 and this time I guessed which guys would actually win correctly. I was reading sherdog and the consensus was Tim Sylvia and Brock Lesnar was going to win. I disagreed with both those discussions. I think Nogeira is just at a higher level of fighting than Sylvia and he didn’t have a chance with a master submission artist. Brock almost won but got stopped for the illegal hits. That through off his rhythm. Otherwise, I think he would have won because he was really amp’d up. Mir almost got knocked out cold but he managed to get a good submission. I think he is no where near what he used to be before the motorcycle accident. The fight I am looking forward in the future is Dan Henderson vs Anderson Silva. I think that will be a great fight.
Another fight I was able to watch was a repeat on HBO was Miguel Cotto vs Sugar Shane Mosley. The fight was from last November and the decision may have been controversial. When I watched it, I was impressed with Mosley and his level of fighting at this stage of his career. He actually did well. I think Cotto is just becoming a better and better fighter and this helped boost his confidence.

THinking back, I thought Sylvia was too one dimensional. He seemed to only have a striking game, is there more to him? Same for Lesnar. I know he’s big and powerful and probably taking advantage of that, but he really left himself open to other styles. I was impressed on the other hand with his attitude he does look serious about his MMA exploits.

Sylvia has always been one dimensional. It was just a matter of time for Negeira to submit him. As for Lesnar, I think UFC did a stupid business decision by matching him up with someone who could submit him. UFC should have put in a striker and built up Lesnar’s popularity to steal viewers from the WWE. Now that he lost, some momentum from the WWE side may have lost their enthusiasm. If UFC matched Lesnar with someone he could have beat, then they could have built up the hype. I do believe he can do well in mma but UFC may not be getting the viewership they hoped with him now that he has lost. Bad decision by UFC.
Great post on the Superbowl. I think you had good analysis of the failure in the making.
Cheers!
Great point there on Lesnar. Were the UFC making it part of their plans to draw some WWE fan interest into this in the long run? Lesnar has been away from wrestling for quite a while actually, I know there was some hype building up to this one, but hardly any of it was from the pro wrestling area so I thought it was just more of a “Hmm, can this ex pro wrestler make it?” angle for MMA fans. But you are right about getting pro wrestling fans’ interest in MMA through this and it was not a good matchup.
But I think UFC might have been stuck in the sense that while they could have matched him with someone else that he’d have a better chance of winning, they also needed a decent headliner. It’s a double edged sword.

I like to watch UFC but my missus gets tired of me tensing every time I see a fight. I’m all over the place watching one!

Hi Andy,
You have to figure out a way to get your girl to enjoy watching it too.
Cheers!
The UFC puts up great shows most of the time but HDNet might be close to bettering them if they do not get more attractive talents. The HDnet shows are so similar to what old Pride FC used to put up.

Hi clear braces,
I agree HDNET is getting better and UFC may have to look in the rearview mirror to see that the competition is catching up.
Cheers,
