I will support the Democratic presidential nominee who ever is chosen whether it is Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. I think they are both great leaders and will deliver on their promise to end the war in Iraq and withdraw our troops. That really is my number one priority in this coming election. Withdrawing the troops will solve many of our financial problems. Most people don’t see how much this quest is draining the resources of our country.
Back to the nominee in question. Both are definitely politicians campaigning with slogans to try to win the popular vote or more importantly the most delegates. I know that Obama has won and swept the last 8 elections in the small states with the caucus process. I am a primary type of guy. I hear the media hyping up the Obama momentum or Obamamentum. Quite frankly, I don’t believe it exists.
A year ago when the media said that Clinton was dominating all the other candidates and basically has locked it up was silly. This poll, that poll blah, blah, blah. Supposedly, Obama was suppose to win and sweep New Hampshire and the polls were completely wrong. They try to cover it up with crap like all the last minute voters decided to vote or Clinton cried so everyone gave her sympathy votes, yeah right. I don’t buy it. The better answer is the polls sucked big time!
Most everyone who is participating in this voting process has already aligned themselves with one of the 2 remaining candidates based really on just what they like. Myself included. I live in California which is a Democrat state. Just so you know, I voted for Arnold for governator. Why? Because I listened to what he had to say and believed him. It was definitely not because he is a great actor “I’ll be back”.
When I first heard Obama a few years back during John Kerry’s run for Presidency, I was very impressed with the speech he delivered. I was inspired and thought he would make a great leader. Without a doubt, he gives the best speeches of the bunch. Then he got Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement like he was the next book of the month selection. That actually turned me off a bit. The idea people would mindlessly vote for him because she recommended him just doesn’t sit well with me. I just don’t really think most endorsements matter. Except with her, she does have a loyal audience who will follow her lead. Regardless, it is their vote.
Now, I have always liked what Bill Clinton was able to accomplish during his 2 terms especially with the economy. Most people will probably remember him more of his sexual indiscretions than his budget surpluses. For me, I didn’t care how many women he fooled around with, as long as the country was not at war and the economy was doing good. He delivered as far as I was concerned. Hillary to me could bring back that same sound economic policy that her husband delivered. So I like her in that respect, too.
What swayed me to change my mind for voting for one candidate to the other were the debates. I actually watched and listened to both the democratic and republican debates. I never was this interested before but I liked all the 3 main candidates and wanted to hear what they had to say. I think they are all sincere in what they want to accomplish, but when I watched them debate I actually was finally able to watch them communicate their ideas. I actually thought Clinton won every debate. I listened to what she said. I listened to what he said. She actually had more of a game plan and expressed them well. He seemed to repeat tag lines that his advisers had given him but could not really expand on them. After watching 3 debates, I decided she was actually more prepared and probably had more resources available to really get things done. I know Congress is already a place where corruption exists and probably always will. I don’t believe he will be able to change that. I don’t believe she will be able to change that either. However, she seemed more confident to me in expressing her ideas and is backed by Bill who ran the country with budget surpluses. The issues she mentioned about the economy and health care are very important. I think Obama’s issue with Iraq is just as important an issue. Both promised to withdraw troops and I believe them both. Beyond that, I think Clinton has more credible solutions for the economy and health care issues. He seemed to need more familiarity with those issues.
Right now I think this is race is 50/50. Obama does have more delegates but if you count Florida and Missouri, I think those numbers would change possibly in Clinton’s favor. Neither one has a majority of the actual popular vote. Again, if you include the actual votes from those two states it may not actually be in Obama’s favor. I really do like them both and will support whoever gets the nomination.
What I don’t like is the media trying to sway the public with headlines like Hillary is going to lose Super Delegates or Obama has it in the bag because of so and so endorsements. I think the media really insults voters’ intelligence and constantly tries to manipulate the news for the candidate they favor. I saw some BS poll that Obama has a better chance than Clinton to beat McCain. And that McCain would beat Clinton if she was the nominee. This is just a total load of crap. We voted out all the Republican Senators and House Reps in the last elections because we wanted our troops to come home. Didn’t matter if those Republicans did a good job or not. The voters voted that way because we are sick of seeing our troops die to set up an Iraqi government. Now, we have a Republican nominee who thinks we are winning in Iraq, thinks we can win in Iraq with more time like a 100 years, and also thought we could of won Vietnam. No disrespect to McCain because he is a war hero and served his country, but why would people vote for him when he would prefer to send more troops there.
I also watched his interview on ABC this morning and could tell he has no clue of what to do to help this country get out of our financial mess. He was just repeating tag lines “I won’t raise taxes and will give tax credits” and he was confident in the people at the federal reserve and treasury. Hello, they contributed to this current mess. How will this stop the the record number of foreclosures causing this recession?! McCain said he thinks he can convince the American people that we can win this war!! So please, Obama or Clinton vs McCain is a foregone conclusion. The democrat nominee is going to win first and foremost because they will withdraw troops. I hate the media for trying to plant seeds to trick people into voting for one candidate because of BS polls. Secondly, they have plans to at least get the economy going and get health care for everyone.
I even think the media is trying to manipulate the Super Delegates in regards to the momentum hype and the popular vote crap. They are tied now and they were probably tied when they first started their campaigns. Don’t believe those stupid polls because they are small samplings with a large margin of error (New Hampshire primary bull crap polls). If you look at the total number of votes for each candidate, you will see the truth. It is 50/50. Half of the democrats like Obama and half like Clinton. If you haven’t figured it out yet, the secretive Super Delegates will probably wind up picking the democratic nominee. And once that is established, people will vote not to have another president like our current one who wants to stay in a war. Only die hard republicans will vote for McCain, because there is a majority of Americans (regardless of party affiliation) who are just tired of this war and will vote for the candidate who pledges to bring our troops home.
On a side note, I would love to see an Obama/Clinton partnership as running mates. The Democratic Convention may secretly pressure the winning nominee to agree to that since that alliance would get a high percentage voter turnout in the general election.

Good post, and I imagine most Democrats feel the same. As an Independent, I’m not bound by devotional ties. If Clinton wins the nomination, I’m voting for McCain and encouraging as many people as I can to do the same. And I think Obama would never crumble to any Democratic Convention pressure to include Clinton as his VP. He has too much integrity for that.
Integrity ‘08 (If not Obama, McCain)
Hey, here’s a nice, funny Obama site: http://obamawill.com
This is going to be a very big deal, since the Supers do not have to abide by the will of the state. OF committed supers in Va, 6 have endorsed Hillary where only 4 have endorsed Obama. Obama won every precinct in the state by overwhelming numbers and took the state overall 64% to 35% but he has few supers committed. To see how your state voted and who the supers are committed to go to this address:

Anybody voting for McCain would be voting for more World Wars. All he wants to do is go to war. Just another sad example of a vet who is trying to make up for wars that he fought and lost, by involving more innocent people.
War money is kinda attractive too. Integrity ‘08. Yup.
After yesterday it is looking pretty hopeless for Hillary. I am still trying to decide which candidate I can at least tolerate for 4 years.
tv brackets’s last blog post..
Ditto what you said Chessnoid, lol.
As a democrat who wants American to look as both of them speak, I’ll take either one. This country needs to start looking and acting like the rest of us.
Shelia’s last blog post..
Oh, Bill Vroom, that site is hilarious!
Shelia’s last blog post..
I just discovered this cite! I agree with everything Chesnoid has said- It is now May 10, 2008-and I am worried–
Bill was a centrist and the country did well It doesn”t seem safe to go too far to the left or right–However we do not
always think for ourselves any more–
Let’s stick to the candidate who is more centrist! The super delegates seem to be too influenced by the press!
They-and we are often more influenced by commentators on TV who want to entertain- but are not always qualified to Assess the Data!! Let us all wake up before it’s too late!!!
