Wednesday flying back home

I had planned to originally take the bus, but I didn’t get a good feeling about it. it would have saved me $40 but there was a chance I could get lost and in an area I wasn’t familiar with just got paranoid. We took a taxi from our hotel and met a very social able taxi cab driver. He was from Africa and had a familiar accent. After a few minutes of driving, my wife inquired where he was from. He suggested we guess. After a few wrong guesses, we mentioned the Gold Coast. He asked me where that was, but I really didn’t know. I just remember having a college classmate with a similar accent over 20 years ago. The driver said that was the old name and it was now known as Guyana. Don’t quote me on the accuracy of this, because I did have a little difficulty sometimes understanding him.

He got us to the airport without incident and I gave him a good tip. He seemed genuinely thankful. That is always good to see.

At the airport, we had to go to the screening process which usually is stressful. This time was no different. I still don’t believe it does anything. It is a waste of time and money. I saw on the news yesterday about a 10 year old kid who got past security and all the way to gate without id pass, or papers of any sort. They did catch him before boarding the plane this time. Last time he did this last year, and he did the same thing. They have no idea how he gets so far in the screening process. They said they might charge this 10 year old boy with trespassing since this is his second incident. The news indicate he was trying to get to Texas to see his grandfather.

I flew delta and have a frequent flyer miles account. I went to one of those self serve kiosks and punched in my number and in about a minute I was completely checked in and printed up our boarding passes. Once we got passed security, the other side of the area that had the airport gates was set up just like a mall. they had of course a star bucks, a Japanese restaurant that served sushi, the infamous Anthony’s and ivars fish restaurant, Mexican food, a deli with sandwiches, a bookstore, a newsstand,a a bar, and a gift store. The main lobby area had nice views of the airport and floor to ceiling windows about 100 feet high.

We settled in and patiently waited for our plane. After looking at all the food choices, we decided to have one last fish meal from Ivar’s. We ate there earlier in the week at its waterfront location and it was quite delicious.
