It just seems like yesterday a barrel of oil was making shocking news when it broke the $100 mark. Then $110, $120, $130 and now on the door of $140. Almost triple a barrel in just the last 2 years. Really! I remember just 6 years ago when a gallon of gas was just about $1.20. That was before the war. Oh yeah, we are still at war. It’s summer now but the only the price of gas is scorching. In my neck of the woods it is hovering in the $4.70-$5.00 a gallon range and of course all consumer goods have equally been rising. This might be the time to stock up on everything, since tomorrow it will cost more and the value of our dollar sinks. Truly, by the time summer ends the cost of gas at the pump really could be $5-$7 a gallon.
I guess the only thing that will hurt more is when the big oil companies who we give billions of tax credits announce they just made their biggest record profit to date at the cost of killing the American consumer. Isn’t it funny that all other types of companies’ profits go down in an economic disaster such as this severe recession we are going through and yet oil companies smugly smile as they rob us in broad daylight. Pretty disgusting.
Do oil and politics mix? Hmmm.
