MMA and Boxing

This last weekend we had some great MMA fights. All free on HDNET with MFC. The main event was a surprise upset. That was probably the most entertaining fight and I love it when the underdog defeats the undefeated champion. Showtime had the first half of Elite XC card. Both Jake Shields and Antonio Bigfoot Silva won the belts for the championship fights. Both were impressive and I hope they are matched up with some other organizations’ fighters so we can see how good these guys really are. The CBS second half of Elite XC’s card was also great. Nick Diaz actually dominated Thomas WIldman Denny and they were both talking smack before and during the fight. You can see these guys really wanted to fight each other. Denny was just overwhelmed with Diaz’s punches. Those punches don’t look hard but he seems to punish every fighter with them.

There was an HBO PPV boxing match that I heard was great. I am looking forward to watching the rerun for free. Margarito and Cotto was another upset. I really like Cotto and can’t imagine him being knocked out by Margarito. Also, there are rumors that Manny Pacman Pacquiao will be fighting Oscar the Goldenboy DeLaHoya. That has the potential to be the biggest PPV ever. Even though I like Pacquiao and he is the underdog, I really don’t think he has a puncher’s chance against DeLaHoya. I think DLH is just way too big. I am guessing Pacquiao will have trouble gainingweight to 147 on weigh in day. While DLH will cut weight to get to 147 then on fight day maybe gain 15 to 20 pounds. It will be a middleweight vs a lightweight. This reminds me of the fight whenRoy Jones Jr moved up to heavyweight and fought Ruiz but Pacquaio doesn’t have the speed to stick and move like Mayweather or the power to knock out DLH like Hopkins. Regardless, it will be both their biggest payday yet. I bet even bigger than DLH’s last fight.
