Successful blogging

Posted on Oct 11, 2008 by CHESSNOID in Blogging, gratitude, internet | 0 Comments

I have been blogging for over a year now even though it doesn’t seem that long.  In blogger years that is like making it to your teenage years.  Seriously, most blogs die in infancy because people who want to blog want to do it for the wrong reason.  What do you think that reason is?  Making money.

I am sure that doesn’t surprise you.  There are absolutely many sites out there that make some serious change and this ain’t one of them.  You may notice there are no advertisements here, although I do plug fellow bloggers from time to time.  I derive no income from this blog.  I do it because I sincerely enjoy blogging and sharing with others through this medium.  For me it truly is a way of giving back to the community.

People who get into blogging initially to make cash usually fail because that is the purpose of their blog. After a few months when no cash comes in,  they generally stop because they don’t see the point.  For me, I just wanted an online blog where I could just type in my feelings, opinions, and perspective of things that personally interest me.  That is why I have been able to blog this long.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to make money but I never thought seriously this would be my way of doing it.  I started reading blogs that I seriously enjoyed.  Then I would put my 2 cents in the comments section.  If the author replied, then I would come back and read even more.  It was a way of connecting to the things I liked with other people without meeting them face to face. To be frank with you, I am more on the shy side and not very sociable compared to most. Doing things anonymously puts me at ease and allows me to express myself more openly and honestly.

I admire many bloggers and have a big list of favorites saved in my bookmarks.  With my must read blogs, I just have them emailed to me directly by the rss feed.

When I first started I loved getting any traffic I could get. I figured the more readers I got, the more validation I felt.  Any newbie blogger will understand what I am talking about. I use to only get about 5 hits a day and maybe 50 hits in a week if I was lucky.  That is not a lot compared to other blogs especially when those stats consist of your family, friends, and yourself.

I am happy that I have as many people who read and enjoy my blog.  I want to thank my wife for setting up my blog for me to write in and encouraging me to start it. I want to thank Shelia from Black Tennis Pros for telling me about blogburst.  Last quarter, I was able to break into the top 100 blogburst blogs. Thank you for your support and I appreciate each and everyone one of you. Cheers!
