I know I don’t blog about it as much as I used to, but I love watching movies. I watch a minimum of 10 movies a week. They aren’t all new movies either. Last night I watched a classic movie directed by Roman Polanski called Rosemary’s Baby. It is from the sixties and it is funny to see all the devices back then. It made me smile to see the big boxy remote controls with only 2 buttons on it and the large 13 inch TVs. The telephones were still rotary dial type. They had phone booths that you actually get inside and close the door. As for the movie itself, it was actually very good and artsy fartsy for its time period.
They didn’t have special effects back then, so the editing was quite creative. The acting seemed to be very good too and possibly of a higher quality than what we see today. It was strange to see so many famous actors when they were young like Mia Farrow and Charles Grodin.
I am only 41 years old and still remember those things when I was growing up. I think nowadays I take it for granted all the wonderful technology that we have now. We have a few laptops, an lcd, a couple of cell phones and they are all amazing. When you compare it to the things I grew up with I seem really old. I still remember pong, space invaders, the apple 2c, the atari, and the commodore 64. Those were the things I grew up with. They have this show on ABC called Life on Mars. I have caught glimpses of it and it takes place in the 70s, so that is interesting to watch for nostalgic purposes.
Back to the movie thing, I am a netflix subscriber and love getting them in my mailbox. There was a time when I use to go to the wherehouse, blockbuster, and Hollywood video to get vhs tapes and dvds for 3 day rentals. I hope Netflix stays profitable and keeps growing. I use to be a blockbuster subscriber and they were good too, but I found their selection smaller for the stuff I like to watch. The prices for these services are CHEAP. Less than 20 dollars a month and such a great convenience, I don’t think you can beat it.
The movie I just finished watching was an anime based filmed called Nana. On top of learning about the Japanese culture, you get to see that part of the world. This type of Japanese movie is more focused on the younger generation which is much different than other Japanese movies I watch. Every time I watch these movies, I get cravings for sushi and noodles. Does that happen to you too?
