I watched the UFC 90 and was a bit disappointed. The fights were actually all decent. Thiago Alves didn’t ko Koscheck which I thought would have been impressive. They went to a decision. This makes me think Alves isn’t on the same level as Georges St Pierre. GSP schooled Koscheck when they fought.
The fight I liked was Thales Leites submitting Drew McFedries. I thought Leites was in trouble when he got rocked but he made it through and got McFedries with a RNC in the first round.
The main card with Anderson Silva vs Patrick Cote was weird. It seemed like Silva was just clowning around. He did a couple of moves that landed but didn’t really hurt Cote. I actually thought Cote had a chance of winning until his freak ACL accident. I thought I heard it make a loud popping noise, although it could have been a punch. The audience was booing on and off throughout the fight because it was lacking action. Silva should have knocked him out, but like I said earlier it didn’t look like he was serious about the fight or worried that Cote could even hurt him.
Since he announced his retirement, Silva seems unfocused or bored. Maybe both. Dana tried to explain why Silva could have been off. Something tells me there is more behind the scenes that is going on.
Overall, I think because the main card didn’t deliver and had a wierd ending, I was a bit disappointed. I think and hope the Randy Couture vs Brock Lesnar fight coming up will live up to the hype. I always underestimate Randy, but I think Brock will win. The UFC wants him to win and he could be the magnet for the next generation of MMA fans converting over from WWE. Who knows, if Lesnar wins we might see an influx of more WWE fighters coming over.
