Ford, Chrysler, and GM will be asking for a handout and they will get it. The politicians are too weak to know what to do to fix the economy, so they will bailout the auto companies. The government has been very generous in creating a moral hazard so what is one more?

I don’t approve of bailouts period. All the money spent so far to prop up the housing and stock markets have been fruitless. When all the signs of the recession were there, the government failed to react. Now that we are in the thick of things, they feel compelled to just spend their way out. Will giving money to the big 3 auto makers help them to sell cars? That is what it all boils down to.

The auto makers make money when they sell cars. If they don’t sell cars, they make no money. I want to understand how giving them taxpayer money right now will help them sell their current levels of high inventory.
