I just got back from a great vacation in San Francisco. We went during the week and had an amazing time.
Originally, I was planning to blog everyday, but you know how that goes. I can’t say that I am that committed to blogging even though I enjoy it immensely (which may be the secret to blogging consistently over a long period of time).
On day 1, before my wife and I left to go to the airport our kitchen sink had some weird problems. It wasn’t just clogged up, but the water would go from one sink to the other. I have never seen that, but didn’t want to bother till we got back. I manually drained the water and we continued to finish getting ready for our trip.
We booked our flight out of Long Beach which is a smaller airport and took Jet blue. This is the nicest airline that I have been on. It was a fairly short flight and they had the lowest prices on the net. It had great legroom, comfortable seats, large compartments overhead that were big enough to insert our carry-on luggage, and free direct TV and Sirius satellite radio. I was quite impressed with the overall experience.
The airport staff at Long Beach airport seemed less uptight than the LAX people. The LB staff were actually more friendly and professional. When I flew out of LAX on my previous holiday, the staff really made an effort to make coming in unpleasant going through security. They did the same security checks in Long Beach without the same unpleasantness.
When we arrived at SFO, we took the BART down to the Marina where our hotel was located. The BART was very impressive and extremely convenient. We did have to transfer on to a SF Muni bus which was good, but because of the time we arrived (rush hour), the bus became extremely packed. I am talking about sardine fish packed. That part wasn’t fun but it is a small cost to be green.
We stayed at the La Luna Inn which we booked for free through my credit card reward points. It had a retail value of about $99-$109 a night through Expedia. We stayed there 3 nights and chose this hotel because of the great reviews it got online.
The hotel was old and smelled musty. It is on a busy street so you could hear the traffic, but that is stuff we expected. The great thing about it is it was near all the bus lines and walking distance to everything. We basically just settled in the first day and was amazed at how cold it was.
