Blagojevich-where will this road lead us

Posted on Dec 13, 2008 by CHESSNOID in Current Events, Politics, internet | 1 Comments

I was on holiday when this story broke out. All I saw was the TV news coverage on CNN, Fox, CNBC and the local stations in Frisco.  They were all pretty much saying the same thing.  So today I got to read a little bit more information as more dirt is dug up.

At this point, I have to speculate this is actually a standard practice and not something unusual or unheard of.  What makes me believe that is the way these different people are coming out of the story who seem to be talking to each other.  It doesn’t even surprise me.

As this story continues to unfold, I get a feeling all these Illinois politicians are connected.  Both Obama and Emmanuel are from there.  It seemed like it took time for the Obama camp to respond and Emmanuel is in a no comment holding pattern.

Seattle Times:

A spokesman for the Supreme Court, which is made up of seven elected members, declined to comment on the request.

Late Friday, people close to Rahm Emanuel, the incoming White House chief of staff and House member who succeeded Blagojevich in the 5th District seat, said he also is not a target of the probe.

Blagojevich told Harris in one Nov. 13 recording that he wanted to be able to call a “president-elect adviser,” according to the complaint, and ask, “Can you guys help … raise 10, 15 million?”

The Chicago Tribune, quoting an unnamed source, reported Friday that Emanuel had talks with Blagojevich’s administration about Obama’s seat that were captured on court-approved wiretaps.

Emanuel, who has long been close to Blagojevich and Obama, has refused to respond to questions about any involvement in the case.

I am surprised Blagojevich hasn’t resigned like his chief of staff John Harris. Especially after the the President elect Obama called on him to step down. Maybe this Balgojevich has information that he can leverage. He doesn’t act like he is aware he has done anything wrong which kind of indicates to me this is a normal thing they do that people in the know are aware of but just don’t speak about in public.

We already have Rezko who had Obama ties that was arrested and convicted earlier. I know Obama has “distanced” himself from this governor, but I get the feeling his camp is worried about what Blagojevich knows or is aware of. Maybe it is nothing, but we will see how it plays out. So far it looks like a movie or soap opera in the making.

  1. David Dzidzikashvili, December 20, 2008:

Blagojevich’s arrest and the corruption charges highlight the need for change in laws and procedures to make sure this does not occur ever again. Does it sound strange that the previous Illinois governor also had issues with honesty and bribery? I don’t think this problem only exists in the state of Illinois, but the voters, the public – need more control and tougher watchdog to make sure this will never happen again. What’s even more disturbing is Blago’s insistence that he has done nothing wrong and that he is completely innocent. Wonder what drug is this man smoking? The best for Mr. Blago would be to apologize to the voters and step aside.
