I think I blogged about this before awhile back, I don’t have a cell phone plan because I don’t like committing to the monthly fees. On top of that, I don’t really use my cell phone often. I prefer to have it just for emergencies and that is why I only buy prepaid phones. My current carrier is Virgin Mobile and I only pay $60 a year for prepaid mobil service or $15 every 3 months. The service area is excellent and I think the company just piggybacks on Sprint’s network in the USA.
Anyways, I had always wanted to have internet access on my phone but the cell phone version of sites just sucks or to put it milder is not satisfying. I have tried the data plan on it before when I took the train to Seattle and couldn’t visit my regular sites or check email because they didn’t have a cell phone version of the sites.
A week ago after reading another bloggers post, I found out you could download a mini opera browswer on your phone and have full internet access. I tried it again after I downloaded the browser and was very amazed. It was the real deal. It is tiny and unreadable on my very tiny screen, but the browser’s zoom feature fixes all that. So I highly recommend if you need temporary internet access and you can’t get a wifi connection nearby, this is the way to go on your cell phone. The data plan is $5 a month for 5 MBs which sounds small becasue it is, but for just web surfing and reading emails it is plenty. On my phone, it would not play youtube or any site’s videos, but that is probably because of my phone.
As far as laptops, I tried a new program called free wifi radar and installed it on my everex cloud netbook and it worked. I was impressed that it connected fast even from my home which is far away from a starbucks or mcdonalds. I also recommend this program.
