A long time friend I have known for over 10 years came up to visit me. He came with his wife who I have known for about 5 years. They recently got married and seemed very happy.
They are actually both much younger than me and made me realize how old I have become. We met up at a Mexican Restaurant I have eaten at before called Dona Maria’s Tamale Restaurant. The place makes authentic Mexican food and I think they enjoyed it. The service was good and the place wasn’t very busy when we ate there. If you read the online reviews, they are always positive.
We spent a few hours together and caught up about the different people we know. It’s always good to see friends. He mentioned another mutual friend of ours contacted him through Facebook. That is the social media networking tool that I have hesitated getting. I think it is great to catch up with old friends and relatives you don’t see, but I always feel it will lead to people wanting to get together and quite honestly I am not a hip and social guy. At the same time I do get curious to see how everyone is doing but not necessarily renewing those old connections.
The one thing I forgot to do that I regret was take some pictures. It seems minor but it helps me remember things better. I made a mental note to bring my camera, but my forgetfulness caught up with me. Don’t you hate when that happens?
I went back to the restaurant a couple days later to get some take out. My wife told me about the tamales being cooked enchilada style because the food wasn’t as good as I remembered it the first time. When we had the takeout, Wow! that food was so much better. They give good portions on their lunch specials so we ate half for lunch and the other half for dinner. This time I ordered the flan for dessert. We weren’t too impressed with it because it was too rich and it seemed they used to much vanilla.
We have bought flan from Filipino restaurants that is made just the way we like it. In the future, we will probably get our desserts from there. There are a few good Filipino restaurants near me, so next time we get take out I will be sure to stop by and pick some sweet flan from there.
Thanks for stopping by and have an excellent day. Cheers!

Great to see you enjoying yourself in a social setting! Nobody makes leche flan like the Filipinos – simply the best!
