You already know what I thought of the UFC 104 Lyoto Machida versus Mauricio “Shogun” Rua controversial match. They have both agreed to fight each other again. Dana White said he is down with that and will make it happen.
The funny thing with this controversy is now the rematch will be a bigger draw than this first fight. Are we being scammed, suckered, bamboozled, hoodwinked, or conned into getting emotionally tied into these fighters so we can cheer for them? It does seem strange that a controversial judges scoring is generating a whole lot of publicity. This is almost like a WWF promotion.
This might be the new UFC MMA marketing plan.
UFC president Dana White confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that Rua would get an immediate rematch.
“I think there will be a rematch in that fight,” said White. “I talked to both of them and they both agreed to a rematch.”
Rua voiced his opinion at the post-fight press conference that he’s welcome to a second bout with the champion.
“Of course I’m thinking about a rematch ever since the fight, and if that’s Dana’s wish and Lyoto’s wish, I’ll fight him anywhere, anytime, wherever. It’s just a matter of people wanting to put the fight together,” said the former top ranked 205-pounder in the world.
Machida also expressed that he’d take the immediate rematch. “Of course if the UFC decides we should have a rematch then let’s have a rematch,” said the champion.

It was a close call, bt Rua didnt end it.
Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for the comment. I agree with you. It was close and could have gone either way. I don’t think either fighter had it in them to end the fight with a knockout or submission that night. Both fought conservatively to some degree, otherwise it would of ended before the 5th round. We have seen them knock out top caliber fighters in the past.
I think too many people saw it one sided because of the announcers. Shogun fought well but not enough too win decisively on all three judge’s cards.
Cheers!
