Then and Now

I read an op-ed in the New York Times about the tea party movement.  It basically talks about how Americans are getting fed up with politicians from both sides.  It doesn’t matter if you are Democrat or Republican,  you feel most of our political leaders  are doing a poor job or completely failing.  I suggest switching to become an Independent since they seem to value our votes more.

If you think President Bush did a good job, then you are an idiot.  If you think President Obama is doing a good job, then you are still an idiot.  At least that is how I feel.  I also know no one can put up a decent argument to show that either President has been successful.  The only argument I have seen for President Obama is he has only been President for 3 months  and to give him a chance.  Then the argument became, he has only been President for 6 months  so give him a chance, at least he is trying.   Now, the argument is he has only been President for a year and to give him a chance because he has 3 more years to succeed.

Here is the main idea of the article and a link to it if you want to read the whole thing.

New York Times: The Tea Party Teens
The public is not only shifting from left to right. Every single idea associated with the educated class has grown more unpopular over the past year.

The educated class believes in global warming, so public skepticism about global warming is on the rise. The educated class supports abortion rights, so public opinion is shifting against them. The educated class supports gun control, so opposition to gun control is mounting.

The story is the same in foreign affairs. The educated class is internationalist, so isolationist sentiment is now at an all-time high, according to a Pew Research Center survey. The educated class believes in multilateral action, so the number of Americans who believe we should “go our own way” has risen sharply.

A year ago, the Obama supporters were the passionate ones. Now the tea party brigades have all the intensity.

What is more telling are the comments the article has received.  This comment is something I completely agree and believe in.

Sarah Wilson:

Who do you think the tea party voters are, Mr. Brooks? I am middle aged, post-graduate degreed and financially independent. I support full gay rights, including gay marriage. I believe in decriminalizing drugs, I believe in being a good steward to the environment, and to the less fortunate in my own community. But, I will probably vote with the tea partiers. I might even vote for one of their national candidates

You want to know why?  The Bail-outs.

I will never support a political candidate who voted for or supported the bail-outs, and I will support any movement that is against the politicians who supported the bail-outs. I will donate money to candidate, even in other states, who loudly opposed the bail-outs.

I don’t consider myself a tea partier. I am not a joiner and I’ve never marched or demonstrated. But the bail-outs meant that capitalism and free market rules no longer applied in America. It meant that those with political connections were saved and allowed to grow and prosper, while those who had played by the rules suffered and paid.

This anger at the bail-outs will never go away for people like me. Obama supported the bail-outs. Most of the Democrats supported the bail-outs. Some of the Republicans supported the bail-outs. The real statesman; The politicians who cared enough to do right ; they loudly and vigorously opposed the bail-outs.

If the tea party people continue to be the people who oppose the bail-out people; then, the enemies of my enemies, are my new best friends.

And then this comment was funny to me just because the truth is the humor.

2009
Banks that can not lend.
Financial system that is house of cards.
More American jobs outsourced overseas.
Massive unemployment.
Consumers not buying.
Troops to Afghanistan.
Lame duck Black President in White House.

2008

Financial system that is house of cards.
More American jobs outsourced overseas.
Massive unemployment.
Consumers not buying.
Troops to Iraq.
Lame duck White President in White House.
