Lately, we have had some unusual stories come out. What’s worse are the fan’s comments put in after the stories. It seems they are blind to what they don’t want to see or just lack common sense.
First story is about the Pacquiao vs Mayweather being called off because of the blood tests to look for PEDs (performance enhancing drugs). He said he doesn’t take them, yet he won’t submit to the blood tests. Where is the logic in that? I think the majority of high caliber players in many sports take them and are able to hide them. The readers calling Mayweather a coward because Pacquiao doesn’t want to submit to blood tests is not logical and is just plain ignorant.
Even if Pacquiao is ever tested positive for PEDs, he will deny it like Marion Jones, Carl Lewis, and most NFL and MLB players. Of course, his fans will believe him and not the tests.
Pacquiao is better off proving that he doesn’t take PEDs by submitting to the blood tests, beating Mayweather in the boxing ring, and cashing in on another $25-$50 million payday. To say he is walking away because he is insulted is a weak story. Pac fans will side against Mayweather no matter what, but the truth is Pac’s image is the one that is tarnished here.
Another story is about the UFC selling a minority stake to an outsider. You read the comments of the mma but mostly ufc fans who seem confused. They thought UFC was rolling in dough and needed no one since they were selling an unofficial million PPVs every single month (which made them a record breaking year of PPVs) and the big cheese Dana keeps saying he is expanding world wide with all this extra money they are making. His claims that the recession is no match for the UFC is very suspect.
Then they turn around a sell a minority stake for about $200 million. The reasons the readers commented were they didn’t want Strikeforce to get his money and contacts or he will help them expand in that area. MMA payout said they would use the money to help their bankrupt casinos. His conclusions are misguided.
It’s been rumored that the Sheikh was looking to getting into MMA with or without the Zuffa, and thus the decision was made to cut him into the organization. His wealth and numerous connections will undoubtedly prove to be a tremendous asset to the company moving forward – especially internationally within markets like the Middle East and Asia. Moreover, it is believed that the proceeds from the sale will go towards a war chest that will be used to battle for control of the Fertitta’s Station Casinos entity.
Well, common sense would indicate that they are not getting as many PPVs they claim and that is why they don’t release those numbers and that they need cash plain and simple. It makes no sense for them to sell any part of their “positive cash flow” business to an outsider with no real presence in the mma world if they didn’t need the cash. Again, they sold part of the business because they needed the cash.
I think I remember billionaire Donald Trump selling Affliction which he had an equity interest in. I think they could of said the same thing about him and the now defunct Affliction Entertainment.
His wealth and numerous connections will undoubtedly prove to be a tremendous asset to the company moving forward
I don’t even buy MMA payout’s theory that this money will be funneled back into the money losing casinos because that would be flushing the money down the toilet. A cash infusion will not make the bankrupt casinos profitable again. Revenues are down because the economy is bad. The cash they are receiving will likely be put to better use somewhere else, but I would guess more likely towards the business (UFC) that is making money for them and not losing it.
