Cable company games

Posted on Feb 14, 2011 by CHESSNOID in internet | 0 Comments

I have a cable connection for my internet access.  It is just like dsl but a bit faster and with no contracts.  However, from time to time I notice they throttle my speed.  It’s no big deal but they seem to do that I think to generate calls to increase internet speed which you get only by upgrading your package.

So every 3-6 months I will call the cable company to find out what specials they have. They will usually tell me none that I qualify for.  I mention I get flyers in the mail from their competitor offering faster internet for cheaper even though I have no intentions of switching over.  Usually, if you get the right customer service representative, they will give you a free upgrade or the current promotional price to match the competition.  It only took me 4 minutes to complete the call this time and everyone was cool that I spoke with.  The first representative told me he couldn’t authorize it and I told him I understood.

Staying pleasant all the time is important when making these calls.  I am sure they get enough people screaming at them already. The second rep I was transferred to was the customer retention department and he gave me what I wanted.  Oh, the games the cable company plays are fun.
