Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V prices, Samsung Intercept Froyo update, and free apps

Posted on Mar 29, 2011 by CHESSNOID in Amazon, Android, Cell phones, Free Apps, Froyo, gadgets | 2 Comments

I was wrong about the prices on the Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V android cell phone.  I figured that it would just go down as with all technological devices because something better comes along.  I have seen laptops, iphones, ipads, netbooks, and everything else drop within a few months.  Even when demand is great and the item sells out like most apple products, they keep the price the same at the retail level and the secondary market is where sellers bump up the price.  Don’t you think the price increases at the stores is weird?

Anyways, the phone is awesome and definitely worth the purchase.  I think the android 2.2 froyo already installed makes it awesome.  That operating system is why the wireless tether is possible without rooting according to the official froyo video. I think the people who have the samsung intercept will be pleasantly surprised once they are able to update their o/s the first week of April.  At least that is the last time I heard on virgin Mobile’s tweet when the froyo update would be available.

I do love gadgets and checking out what they have.  I have sold my ipod touch, netbook, and cell phone since I no longer use them and they are collecting dust.  This phone was basically an upgrade of all these devices for me.  I didn’t have a GPS  before this so this Android 2.2 navigation program is just another cool function of the phone that is definitely useful.  I probably would have downloaded a free one if it wasn’t included.

I have downloaded  many free apps from the android store.  I have also downloaded about $15 worth of free apps from the Amazon AppStore.  I check in daily to see if the stuff is any good or not.  If they are interesting I will download them to try and delete them if I get bored with them or find out the application itself is not useful.

One of the things that I learned is that there are two sources of memory on the phone.  There is the internal phone memory and the memory card.  I purchased a 16gb microsd card thinking I was set.  However, there are some apps that operate from the phone memory only and refuse to be moved to the microsd card. I only found out about this when I got a message saying I was near my phone memory limit.  I delete apps now that won’t give me that option of storing the programs in my sd card.  I think more of the developers are now taking that into consideration when they create or update their apps since most phones have a very small internal memory size to begin with.

Facebook today said, the Intercept upgrade to 2.2 will never happen. Saying that it just isn’t cost effective.

    Hey PeeOhed,
I am subscribed to virgin mobiles twitter account and I am still under the impression the update will happen on these phones. It is still scheduled for this month. I hope it goes through because it will make all these phones that much better. I have the froyo o/s on my lg optimus and it is fast and smooth.
    Thanks for stopping by.
    Cheers!
