Free Skype calls on my LG Optimus V

Posted on Nov 11, 2011 by CHESSNOID in Amazon, Android, Free Apps, gadgets | 0 Comments

I have used skype before on my android phone but wasn’t sure it I was using my anytime minutes. I have used skype on my ipod touch and it worked fine with no issues. I just had to buy a mic.

There was really no need for me to have skype because I have the $25 Beyond talk plan with 300 minutes and unlimited text and data. However, this monthly billing period I had hit my 300 minutes before the cycle. So I purchased the $3 plan on skype and downloaded the android app into my LG Optimus V.

Just to be sure I wasn’t using my minutes and getting billed for the overage, I went into my settings and turned on airplane mode which shut down phone 3g and data access. Then I turned on wifi mode since I was in my house. After that I called different phone numbers and it worked like a charm. After making a few calls, I logged into my virgin mobile account and of course no calls made. I was still at my maximum 300 minutes used.

I don’t really need this feature, but if you find yourself at your limit, this is an easy cheap fix to bridge yourself into the next cycle. Hope this helped you. Cheers!
