Strikeforce: Rockhold vs Jardine 1.7.2012

Still hard to believe it is 2012, but I just watched my first mma event tonight Strikeforce: Rockhold vs Jardine and it wasn’t too bad. I wasn’t expecting anything but was surprised that it was a pretty good event.
The production has not become any better since the UFC has taken it over. Dana White was interviewed and doing some public relations in between the last 2 fights. He mentioned he thought Lesnar was going to beat Overeem. That one was an easy fight to pick the winner that even I picked Overeem to knock out Lesnar. One of my friends thought the fight was fixed, but it looked real to me.

In the main event of this Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine card, I thought the Ref did a poor job in stopping the fight. I have to agree with Pat Militech who was doing the play by play that the fight definitely should have been stopped 5 punches earlier since Jardine was not protecting himself against Rockhold after being punched in the head. Jardine had stars circling his head.
Militech and Shamrock thought the King Mo should have been stopped earlier too, but when I watched the replay I can’t say I completely agree. At least in that fight, the opponent was still lucid and not in dreamland yet.

Showtime boxing and mma

Last night was a good night for free boxing and free mma. It was all on Showtime and scheduled one right after the other. Honestly, the boxing match with the undefeated Andre Ward vs Carl Froch started off decent but by the 6th round was a bit boring. They both started to gas out and just hold each other in the clinch. Or as my wife asks, “why are they trying to hug each other?”

The mma matches were good. I have to admit this Strikeforce event had some good fighters and I was anxious to see most of them fight. I haven’t had time to look for the fights online but if I do I will embed them here later. Have an excellent day.

This free mma event looks to be a decent card. On top of that it is free. The UFC owns this company now, but the production value seems to have gone down instead of up.

I think the Strikeforce Grand Prix: Barnett vs Kharitonov was a great event and had unexpected results. Too bad Strikeforce won’t be around for too long. I think Josh Barnett has become much better since he originally left the UFC. It will be good to see him fighting the other UFC heavyweights soon. Cormier was impressive in this fight.

I was surprised with most of the results. If you haven’t watched the fights, then you try to catch the replays on Showtime.

This weekend they are showing Strikeforce Grand Prix: Barnett vs. Kharitonov and I am looking forward to this UFC-Strikeforce event. I know within a year the UFC will shut down this company too like Pride FC and WEC. It’s too bad because I think it makes it harder for fighters to get jobs. Monopolies are bad and the fans do not get the best selection. This applies to all businesses.
